My American dream was to become an American, a citizen of the most powerful nation on earth. After living in the U.S. for 5 1/2 years, I achieved my American dream by serving in the most powerful military in the world. Yup, the U.S. military! I worked hard to earn it and I put my life on the line for it. It’s exactly 4 years and 1 month since I became an American citizen. It was one of the best days of my life. A few days ago one of my favorite Christian ministers, Christine Caine celebrated her family’s new American nationality. It added more fire to my sense of pride in being American.
For those of us who became an American citizen by choice, it is a privilege we hold dear. It’s a privilege we cherish even though we worked hard for it. We see the freedom, we see the opportunities, we see a better future for ourselves and our children, we see possibilities, and we feel unstoppable! We love our country of birth in a special way but becoming an American is something else…. I don’t have a word for it! Tbh though, America has done a lot more for me than my country of birth.
I am proud to be able to call myself an American citizen and a citizen of the heavenly Jerusalem!
These individuals capture the joy so many immigrants/aliens feel upon becoming an American citizen. I don’t know of any other nation where citizenship through naturalization is so diverse and celebrated with so much pride.
