Baby’s Food Taster and The High Priest

I ensure my baby’s food is in very good condition before he consumes it. The only time I don’t take on the role of a food taster for the little one is when I breastfeed him. While casually checking the temperature of my baby’s water by taking a sip before handing it over to him, the Holy Spirit revealed something about Jesus to me.

Jesus is the High Priest who tasted ALL for US.

We have a loving God and Father who tasted every sickness, pain, sorrow, trials and temptations for us. He went through it all so we can live a triumphant life, to share our grief, and enable us live from victory.

The fact that Jesus tasted or went through every form of challenge in the flesh makes me feel more connected to Him. It makes the possibility of living like He did more attainable or possible. I believe someone who has been through what I am going through is able to provide better assistance and will certainly have more empathy compared to another individual who can’t relate with my situation.

How can I possibly provide comfort to a woman who had a miscarriage or a mother who has lost a child if I have never been there?! Our father and God was there! He went through it all. He was separated from his only Son for US. His son died for US. He felt it all. The pain, the grief and anguish.

The following scripture came alive in me.
Hebrews 4:15New International Version (NIV)

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

What a relief that we can live life knowing that we have a God who is not disconnected! A God who can relate. Our heavenly Father tasted it ALL for us and we don’t have to live defeated.

My husband helped me go deeper by emphasizing the fact that Jesus didn’t taste evil so that He can pass it on. He tasted evil so we don’t have to taste it. Hence, we can tell evil that it has no legal right over us because Jesus tasted it ALL. It is finished!
