I Love my Dads

My step-dad came into my life when I was 4 years old and I wished for the next 4 years that he would leave.

I would cry if someone said he was my dad, I made sure they knew right away that he wasn’t.

Then, I remember being at a school party at 8 years old and something happened in my heart, for the first time I was so proud he was there, I was proud he was my dad.

My sister and I asked him if we could call him dad shortly after that and I will never forget the look on his face as he said yes.

I see my dad every day and it never fails he always hugs me and tells me he loves me, I have never felt like a step child to him even when I tried so hard to be.

So to those in a similar situation, let me encourage you with this…I have two dads that I love with all of my heart. One brought me into the world, the other helped me learn how to live in it.

I see both of my dads daily and never once have I thought I love one more than the other, they are both two of my best friends.

Parenting shouldn’t be a competition, just an opportunity for our children to learn another facet of the character of God. I also understand now that the reason I can love both of my fathers is because my mother never used her pain as an excuse to ruin my opinion of them.

Protecting what you say around your children is one of the best gifts you can give them.

Happy Father’s Day!
