They Hear God

Early in March, we visited grandma. After spending the day and saying a 10 minute emotional goodbye, we finally got the kids in the car. One child was having an exceptionally hard night and acting in an unusual way. We decided to take a few minutes and everyone in the car had to say one thing that they loved about every family member.

My daughter said something to me that took two days for me to process. She said, “Mom, I love you because you make sure all of us have everything we need all the time. But not everything we want all the time.”

My 6 year old reminded me how important boundaries are in any relationship. Maybe this is so simple, but her comment made me think about my own attitude.

How am I responding to a no from God? How do i respond when I don’t get what i want? Am I trusting his heart for me in getting me what I need or am I throwing a fit? Do I trust he has a vision bigger than what I can see for me in mind?

I pray my heart understands that a no isn’t because He is mean, but because he has something laid out that meets my needs and my future wants. When you aren’t sure what to do, ask your children. They hear God.

They asked Jesus, “Do you hear what these children are saying?” “Yes,” Jesus replied. “Haven’t you ever read the Scriptures? For they say, ‘You have taught children and infants to give you praise.’” Matthew 21:16

  1. Great read! I posted something similar today. I want the sunshine, but he’s sending rain right now…he who sufficiently fills the sky, also sovereignly fills my life with what he knows is best for me. I pray you continue to receive what he gives with gladness!

  2. Wow God speaking through your children to you! I’ll be excited to experience that too someday! Great reminder! God is good! 🙌
