Ice Cream Lessons

What were we thinking? Yesterday, we gave the little one ice cream at a church event few hours before his bed time. After hours of trying hard to comfort him and put him to sleep, we realized giving him ice-cream was a bad idea. The little one enjoyed the ice-cream experience but it wasn’t worth the consequences. We felt so bad watching him toss, turn, and whin. I said “we are sorry we did this to you, it’s our fault”, and we gave him gripe water. No more commercial ice-cream close to bed time.

Two lessons from this situation- it may be good but it may not be God. Always seek God’s best.

Many times we think something is Good for us but God isn’t in it. We want an experience, a gift, a job, a blessing but it’s not THIS season. Sure, it’s part of God’s plan to give us good things but we must learn to wait for the right season and desire God’s best. We also need to trust that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him.

I remember there was a doctoral program I wasn’t accepted into and my heart was heavy. I wanted to become a clinical psychologist but every door kept closing despite my efforts and qualifications. God put a passion for mental health in my heart, I couldn’t understand why things weren’t working out. It was a painful experience. I may share a testimony about this experience in another post.

Looking back, I am thankful the two programs I applied to didn’t work out. They were good aspirations but they were not part of God’s plan for me. I am now in a doctoral program that is in line with God’s plan and purpose for my life. I love my current program so much. I get to learn about the mental health of infants and young children, and I have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable people in the society, children.

Is everything falling apart despite your prayers and qualifications? Ask yourself, “do I want my will to prevail or God’s perfect will?”. Bring yourself to a place of surrender to God’s perfect will and ask God to guide you to His BEST.

Proverbs 3:6
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. 1 John 5:14-15

  1. Thanks for sharing this dear. Sometimes when things don’t work us the way I want, I think about my failure, but we need to always seek God’s will for our lives. He knows what’s best for us. His plan for us is to flourish. How is your baby now? ❤️❤️❤️

  2. “It may be good but it may not be God. Always seek God’s best.” I like this statement. This is a valuable lesson to learn. Thank you for sharing your testimony.

  3. Awww – Sugar rush mode. 🙂

This spoke to me. Sometimes we wonder why “But God said I should pursue this etc.” God’s ways are just never our ways, He always chooses the best for us which will always be far greater than our own supposed best.
