Baby’s First Words

From dada to bae, then “bye bye”, “thank you”, “sorry”, “apple”, attempts to say “ball”, and long conversations I really wish we understand. I am in awe! It sounds like speaking in tongues for the first time. It is safe to say mommy, daddy and the little one’s teachers are doing a great job building a socially adept human.

The little one’s first words are so precious to us. We cheer him on and make videos. We encourage him to keep talking by being responsive. We talk him through daily activities. Like other new parents, we value those first words and firsts of everything.

Sadly, it is easy to get used to hearing our little ones talk, watching them walk, etc. It is easy to become familiar with these milestones and lose our wonder. This is so human. It’s like falling in love then suddenly finding it hard to stay in love.

This attitude or habit also leaks into our relationship with God. No wonder the Bible says, “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.”~ 1( John 4:2 NIV) How we treat those we see reflects our degree of intimacy with our heavenly father. We can’t live from his presence and be hateful people.

My main point is that we often lose our awe of God, get bored about time in the Word, and forget living a life of faith is an honor. When we lose our wonder, it is easy to become ungrateful and lukewarm.

Do you remember when you got saved? The joy and gratitude you felt? Do you still long to be in God’s presence, just laying there with no words? Are you still in awe of God? Do you still find your Bible exciting to read? If you have found yourself in a place of “familiarity” instead of intimacy with the heavenly father, it is time to repent and ask God to help you. If you have not lost your wonder, I pray that you will never lose your wonder and daily live a life conscious of God’s presence and goodness.

Have a blessed weekend!
