The goal of this post isn’t to condemn Christians who celebrate Halloween. My intention is to help Mommas/parents who don’t want their family to participate in Halloween or don’t know if it’s okay to join the celebration. We spread love and truth on this blog.
This book is available on Amazon. It helped me understand the pagan and Christian history of Halloween. More importantly, it is a story book you can read to your children so they don’t feel left out when their friends are tricking and treating. I read it just to prepare myself for the future.
I don’t celebrate Halloween based on my cultural background and Bible revelations.
In Nigeria where I was raised, witchcraft is real and the seemingly innocent skeletons and dark figures are symbolic. There is a cultural sensitivity to the spiritual realm in Nigeria. With this type of cultural background, celebrating Halloween is like celebrating darkness, participating in witchcraft and opening oneself to unneccessary warfare.
The Bible says we should give NO place to the devil. We can unknowingly give place to the devil through our words, actions, and generational curses. By participating in Halloween, I believe I can give the enemy an opportunity to infiltrate my home. We have enough warfare going on, I don’t want to welcome unneccessary warfare. I don’t want to fight battles that could have been avoided.
While God’s grace makes us free to do many things, we shouldn’t forget there are fellow believers who are struggling in their walk.
Do Not Cause Another to Stumble: Romans 14:13-23 (ESV)
13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. 14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. 15 For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. 16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.
If we truly want to live a life that pleases God, we should ask ourselves whether Jesus is revealed in our choices.

I grew up celebrating Halloween like most people. I wore the scary costumes and went trick and treating. It was all in fun–so I thought!
The devil knows we can be deceived if he can blind us to the truth. I learned through biblical truths that celebrating Halloween opens us open for demonic influence.

Another thought–if anyone has allowed their children to participate in Halloween, don’t be in despair. I took my son trick and treating once, I dressed him up as a pumpkin because he was too cute to dress him up as anything scary. I wasn’t in a relationship with the Lord, but after learning the truth through teaching of the Word I renounced every and related evil practice. I talked to my son about Halloween and explained why we don’t celebrate it.
The Bible says, we perish for our lack of knowledge. We need to know what the Word says. It is relevant to our lives not just eternity. If anyone is just finding out now what the Word says, don’t beat yourself up, just move on from here and do it God’s way!

Amen! As a side note, Halloween is a great opportunity to share the gospel. The rest of the year we have to go door to door to share the gospel. On Halloween they come to us! The devil wants to trick us into hell, but Jesus wants to treat us with eternal life!

Honestly am so glad I relocated back to Nigeria as a young adult and stayed back and start a family here.
So much I learned here, like you said, about spiritual truths. The West has really trivialized practices of sin and the satanic realm has been turned to dust and fairies.
Also have learned so much about spiritual warfare and how we can give room to devil even with seemingly everyday “small” sins like lie and deceit.

Thank you for this! I grew up in Kenya and we too are very sensitive and aware of the spiritual realm. I think People are so desensitized and disconnected to the spirit realm. If something is not “tangible” then people think there is no perceived danger. For me, I am very sensitive to the spirit and I abstain and refuse to participate in certain events or watch certain seemingly harmless movies or celebrated shows. The challenge can sometimes be when the other parent other insists on taking the kids out for Halloween. 🎃 What do you do at this juncture?

Very insightful! ❤️ it! My kids do Halloween, I always tell them nothing gory and this year my boy was a ninja and honestly I had trouble with that one…like it’s hard to know when to draw the line…I can definitely see the benefit in altogether avoiding Halloween to not have that issue at all!!

Wow I find this post very interesting. As Muslims we also do not celebrate Halloween.We understand that it has pagan roots which has nothing to do with the religion of God.
