Teachers are one of the most powerful people in the world. They hold a position of influence and the future of the world depends on how they use the power of influence. From daycare to graduate school, those in teaching positions influence our perception of self and the world.
Unfortunately, some of these powerful people are underpaid and underappreciated in the United States. Particularly, those caring for our children in the early years of life when personalities and neural connections that may have lifetime impacts are formed. Readers outside the U.S., I would like to know if teachers are underpaid and underappreciated in your country.
If you are a caregiver or early childhood educator reading this, please know that you matter. Like me, many parents are thankful for you and we appreciate you. You are not a “glorified babysitter”. You are powerful, important, and valuable in every society. The way you care and respond to those little ones will impact their adult life. Some of the little ones you care for do not have someone to model a loving, caring, and responsive relationship to them at home. You are in the best position to show them what love looks like and we are grateful that you sacrificially show love to children under your care.
Moms of children in daycare, preschool, and beyond, let’s take time this week to appreciate teachers and those who care for our children. Leave a Thank You note, tell them you appreciate what they do and let them know you mean it, buy them gifts, and most importantly, pray for them. Don’t wait till it is Teacher’s Day. While I commended dedicating a day, weeks, and months to celebrate people or events, oftentimes people forget to continue celebrating those people every other day. Appreciate teachers anytime and as often as possible. It makes a difference in the lives of those teachers and your children will benefit from your seed of appreciation.
Yes sis. Teachers are low paid here especially for the nursery/primary.
They are doing a great job – so many cries and tantrums to attend to all at once and still teach!. I salut them!
That’s sad. I guess most societies do not value early childhood educators. Most people think caregivers and teachers have an easy job and do not require much skills to perform their job. Very wrong. It takes a lot of patience, heightened sense of awareness and emotional sensitivity to do what they do.

They are definitely underpaid in the south. I have a friend who has been in daycare for many years. She is the sweetest person who loves children. She finally opened up a daycare from her home recently. She makes more working for herself than she did working for all the daycares all these years!
I can imagine. When passion cannot put food on the table, people get frustrated and quit. I am glad your friend’s passion was not burned out and she found a way to continue caring for children. That’s a blessing!
As a teacher, I can attest to the fact that teachers are underpaid. I admire the dedicated teachers who teach preschool. They are the bridge between home and school for the youngest students.

Yes, “the bridge” is the perfect phrase to describe the role of early childhood educators. My hope is that teachers will someday soon become valued and respected more than celebrities.

Teachers are heroes and definitely deserve more pay and respect! I still remember the names of the majority of my teachers and my daughters teachers too lol. They are not easily forgotten because they have made such a positive impact. ❤️
Exactly! It is hard to forget them. I believe parents are in the best position to advocate for teachers to receive better pay. We can use our influence. Parents should never look down on their children’s teachers. Thank you!
You’re welcome! My daughter is out of school now but I did notice that the parent/teacher relationship seems to have changed over the years. But it would be nice if they were on one accord like the old days. My cousin teaches and says dealing with parents is the hardest part at times.

In the end, it’s all about what’s best for our children. So, we must lay down our pride and work together for the sake of our children. Teachers who love their job are the best, they make learning fun.
