A Father’s Gift

Most parents want their children to have a better childhood, live a better life than they did, and achieve things they may not be able to achieve in their lifetime. Parenting presents us the opportunity to give our children the childhood experiences we dreamed of, and help another human avoid the costly mistakes we made. The little one got an early Christmas gift from his father. A toy his father wanted as a child. Their faces lit up as they unwrapped and played with the gift. It was a joyful scene.

While watching them, I thought to myself: How does our heavenly father feel when He sees our faces light up after our unspoken needs are met? I believe it brings joy to the father’s heart. How does God feel when our face light up after He lavishes us with gifts we did not ask for? Our heavenly father must be delighted.

For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. -Psalms 149:4

The little one’s gift also served as a reminder that our heavenly father takes pleasure in giving us good gifts. God delights in taking care of His children. He is the perfect parent. So, trust God to take care of you and your children.

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! – Matthew 7:11

Like a good parent, God wants us to do greater works than He did when He walked this earth. Wow! What a privilege and honor to be God’s children, called to heal the sick and do the impossible things Jesus did.

I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. -John 14:12

Will you trust this good father? Give it a shot. Trust God to fulfill His promises to you, His child.

PS: Over the next two weeks, I will be writing very short posts because I have a lot of academic papers to write. I love you all with the love of Christ.

  1. What an encouraging message, Temi! I am feeling this today. I recently listened to a podcast where the speaker said she asked God every day, what one thing can I do toward my goals/dreams today? And she ended up creating a business from that, though it wasn’t the path she thought she was headed for. All week long, I’ve been asking the same, and God is so loving and wants to be a part of that. Good luck with your papers! <3
