Self-Care is Compulsory

Mothers naturally recognize the voice of their children and vice versa. We can differentiate our child’s cry from other children’s cry. It is just natural. Sadly, a crying mother may have difficulty hearing her child’s cry. A child whose cry goes unheard for too long and too often will stop crying. Instead of crying out, the child would cry inside. Instead of reaching out to the mother for comfort and connection, the child would seek out another channel for comfort.

Mommas, let’s prioritize self-care. Self-care is an important part of parenting. When you treat yourself well, you are treating your child well. Attend to your own cry, so that you can attend to your child’s cry. It is difficult to provide comfort when you are not comfortable. Self-care includes spirit, soul and body care. Be strong in your spirit, soul and body. Feed all three appropriately and you will become the best version of yourself.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. True for dads as well. When my son was born I was sick, depressed and exhausted. God lifted me out of that pit and got me spiritually and physically fit again. Wish I had paid more attention to me sooner.

    1. I agree, it’s true for dads. I believe we need more studies on father-child relationship. We hardly talk about paternal postpartum depression but it happens.
