Thoughts on Parenting 101

To honor is to respect and hold in high esteem. In early childhood, children naturally honor their parents. They look to their parents for everything. As they grow up, they begin to see mommy and daddy’s flaws. This may cause them to disrespect their parents thereby creating a strain in parent-child relationship.

In parenting and when there is a strain in parent-child relationship, Exodus 20:12 should give us a reason to lay down our pride and strive for a healthy relationship with our child. It should give us a reason to speak life over our children instead of cursing them in anger. It should give us a reason to value our place in our children’s life.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. -Exodus 20:12

Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) – Ephesians 6:2 (KJV)

Let’s be honorable parents.

  1. To be an honorable parent it starts with modeling Christ. When we recognize parenthood for what it really is, (we are to be a good steward over our children), we understand that it is a sacred responsibility given to us by God.

  2. It is truly needful for one to hold on to this. 💯 And the parent not in anger cursing the child, many folks need to practice that. Sad to see a parent yelling out curses on the child 😞
