Thoughts on Parenting 101

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. ~Proverbs 22:6

I was given more insight on this Bible verse few days ago in written words, so I thought to share it with you.

“In the original Hebrew, training up a child is referring to bringing up the child according to the way God has wired that child which is referred to in Hebrew as “bent”. In other words, it is the parents’ responsibility to seek God regarding the destiny of each child God gives us and to bring that child up according to that God-given plan for that child. That is what that scripture is really about and not so much as about discipline as we are fond of interpreting that scripture to be. You can discipline a child without having a clue about that child’s God-given destiny. Thus it is imperative to know the destiny of the child and then train them (which includes discipline) in the “bent” that the child should go.”

I agree with my aunt’s statements. Parents should lay a good foundation for their children to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. It all begins with commiting this thing called parenting to God. We need God in every area of our lives. His wisdom transcends our human wisdom. Partner with the Wise One in parenting today!♥️

  1. Absolutely. 💯
Partnering with Him is key and just as Proverbs states “…lean not on your own understanding…”. Human beings are best understood when we go through our creator – God!.

  2. Often times the Hebrews didn’t name their children for years until they learned their personality so that the name of the child would be indicative of their character.

      1. Yes, that is true but moreover in standard Jewish antiquity they would make sure the name of their child matched the child’s character. Moses is an example, he wasn’t named right away after his mother Jochebed gave birthed to him. It was actually Pharaoh’s daughter that named him Moses which means drawn from the water.
