Little Mr. Independent

It is happening earlier than I expected. The little one is exerting his independence more than ever. He wants to feed himself all the time and do many things by himself. One of his new favorite words is “No” and he motions to push me away. When he pushes me away, I think to myself, “you need me little man”. He needs me because I know what he does not know. Many times, I let him learn. I do not always impose my “easier way” on him when he chooses a more difficult way to accomplish his goal.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The little one’s assertion of independence and desire to do things his own way shows how I act sometimes. Sometimes, I forget that God’s ways are best and I need to humble myself before God.

I know that God’s loving nature and regard for our ability to choose makes Him step back and watch us do our thing. I have seen this happen in my life several times.

When God impressed on my heart to become a behavior therapist, I did not wholly pursue the process. I decided to apply for other jobs and tried other good things. Thankfully, they failed because they were not meant to be. I am so glad they failed.

Immediately I set my heart to pursue the process of becoming a behavior therapist, I got more clarity and taking on this job led me to pursue my current doctoral degree. My doctoral program has changed many things about my life. I am thankful that other doctoral program applications and job interviews fell through.

God knows and desires what is best for us. When we begin to live with the consciousness of this truth, it changes everything. Cast your cares on God by believing His Word concerning whatever situation you may find yourself. Do not give in to fear and anxiety.
