School closures due to COVID-19 has many families questioning the best way to educate their children. Even if schools open as usual this fall, some parents are trying to decide if they should send their children back to public or private school or take a completely different route and home-school.
As they make such an important decision, many parents are overwhelmed. Many questions arise such as:
Will my child learn all s/he needs to attend college one day?
Will my child be ok socially?
Do I know enough to teach my child?
What curriculum is best?
These are just some of the same questions I had when deciding to home-school 7 years ago. Let me set your hearts at ease a bit by sharing a little about our homeschooling journey.
First of all, if you are not already praying about your child’s education, please do so. Our Father loves our babies more than we do and wants what’s best for our families.
Ok, now onto specifics. If God is calling you to homeschool, you are equipped! Is it easy? No. Is it work? Yes. Are there hard days? Of course. Is it worth it? Absolutely!
Homeschooled children go on to have whatever career they want. Trade school, college, Mes school, etc.
Kids who are homeschooled are also socially “fine.” Prior to COVID-19, my kids socialized with other kids through Rec sports, play dates, church, etc.
Curriculum- there are TONS. We personally use a mix of different Christian curriculum. I spent lots of time googling “Christian Homeschool Curriculum” before deciding on what we use. Each year, I do it again and get rid of what we didn’t like and try something new if needed.
Bottom line when thinking about homeschooling is to do your research and do what works best for your entire family. And remember, keep Jesus at the center of it all!

Love this! Short and to the point! I have one kiddo I homeschool and two in public school but you’re so right you do what works for your family!! Can I be honest, I’ve had to snicker a bit because I’ve had people make rude comments about my kids being homeschooled (they’ve all been homeschooled at some point) anyway I’ve had to laugh a bit because those who’ve made rude comments are getting a little taste of homeschool with the virus😉 k I’m done being sassy! I will be eternally grateful I have never had to home school. I admire those who do, three of my grandchildren were home school when they lived in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and they are smart and can communicate well with others. My daughter loved it though and when they moved back to the states and the kids went into public she got a job at the school to be close to them. It was a hard switch for them but they needed at extra income. But, it’s a lot different and more challenging to teach others then it was her own children. Dealing with the public school system and so many children from families who have no discipline in them has reduced her to tears often. As I said before I admire homeschoolers.
Definitely not always easy but worth it fir those God calls to homeschool!
your post is timely. i’m going through a situation wondering much about my girl and her school. Shamyra had a knee issue sometime back and has not been to school since. it’s nearly two years now and before we knew it time flew by and no home schooling even. yes i’m concerned and worry over her, but I know our Lord will make a way.
