Use Your Superpower

Growing up, superman was one of my favorite superheroes. He had superpowers and he maximized it by protecting communities. Christians have the ultimate superpower, the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8) and this power is not just available for our personal use. The life of a Christian is not meant to be about “me, myself and I” or “me and my family”. That kind of Christian life is boring, selfish, and keeps the Christian short of God’s best. The Holy Ghost power was given to believers so we can do many impossible things for the good of humanity (Matthew 10:7-10).

Instead of feeling helpless about the possibility of child molestation and other kind of child abuse taking place in my community, I have learned to pray. I allow the Holy Spirit to help me pray (Romans 8:26). For prayer is one of the most powerful weapons. Just like superman does not allow evil to prevail under his watch, God has put a “not under my watch” fire in me and it compels me to pray against every form of child abuse in my community.

Sometimes, I am awakened at night to pray over children in my community like a spiritual supermom or watchman. Other times, I find myself praying for the well-being and salvation of other people’s children. It is as though I can feel their parents’ heavy hearts then I carry it in such a way that it enables me to pray fervently.

As a Christian mom/parent, those are few ways I put the power of the Holy Spirit in me to work. I have purposed in my heart to spend more time praying for other people and the Church than praying for myself. It took a long time for my heart to get to this place and there is still a heart-work going on.
