Guest Post: Put Fear In Its Place

If we don’t put fear in its place, it would put us in its place of defeat and hopelessness. Today, we have a guest post by Udeme Etuknwa-Achiuwa. Udeme loves Jesus and she is a mother holding up other mothers in faith. She shares how fear stole her peace when the pandemic began and decisions that help her keep fear in its place of defeat this season. Be blessed as you read!

Uncertainty??? No one likes that word. However, that was the reality I experienced when I first learnt of the corona-virus effect all over the world. As a mom of a 3 year old who had to be cared for by a babysitter while I was at work, it was such a terrifying experience. Relief came when I had to start working from home and have her with me but, that was not enough to alleviate my fears. When my daughter asked to go to the park and play, the word “park” felt like a curse word and I wouldn’t even entertain the idea. I kept hoping maybe in a week the corona-virus issue would be resolved but that wasn’t the case.

It later dawned on me that I had become so inward focused. Consequently, I approached my devotion time with God with fear and left God’s presence empty. The following decisions and actions changed my reaction/approach to the negative news concerning Covid-19. I got me and my family “bloodproofed” from the virus!

The first decision was to deepen my walk with God (I did this by spending time in prayer and the word of God). Second- I decided to start investing in others (I started having bible study with other people and helping them stay focus on God and not the news). The third decision was to manifest the blessing by putting God’s word into action.

These were game changers which are still working and producing awesome effects in my life and family. It’s been about 6 months since I first heard about the virus, and I am thankful that it has not interfered to an extent with any aspect of our lives. This has been possible because of our decision to stand on God’s word.

We can put God’s Word to work this season and beyond! For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. ~ 2 Timothy 1:7
