A Christian Momma…..

One of our most important roles as Christian mothers is helping our children grow into functional disciples of Christ. It involves so much more than just taking them to church on Sunday. We play a critical role in our child’s discipleship process; we are also responsible for evangelizing to our children.

Mother reading with her daughter

Having daily Bible studies with them and teaching them how to apply Scripture to their everyday lives is vital to their own walk with Christ. We should help our children develop the spiritual discipline of prayer and reading the Bible for themselves. Using the Scriptures to direct and guide their lives, to correct and teach them to obey and serve God is important for your their spiritual development.

A Christian Momma…..

STAYS INVOLVED

As moms, it is our role to ensure we know what is going on in our children’s lives. It may make you the “uncool” parent, but it will make you an effective parent. As a parent, you need to be aware of what your child is doing, what they’re watching, the type of friends they are being influenced by, the kinds of content they are consuming. God gives us wisdom and the Help of the Holy Spirit; we shouldn’t allow society to raise our children.

SEES HER FAILURES AS LESSONS

We often get discouraged at our mistakes and shortcomings, believing that we can’t reach our children because it would make us seem hypocritical. The truth is, our failures can teach our children. they don’t have to learn from the school of hard knocks. Furthermore, our failures reveal our need for the very Lord and Savior we are teaching them about. Failures are a great opportunity to grasp the concept that “God’s grace is sufficient.” God can still be glorified because when we admit that we don’t have what it takes in and of ourselves, God shows up mightily and we give Him all the credit!

REACHES OUT TO OTHERS FOR HELP

As moms, we also need to recognize that we can’t do this all by ourselves, it truly takes a village. The daily tasks you have to get done can be overwhelming, especially with little children. Furthermore, God put us in a community of faith for a reason: God never intended for Christianity to be lived in a vacuum or individually. Reaching out to another mom in the faith to help lighten the load will allow you to know that first of all you are not alone and second of all to give you a break.

FILLS HERSELF WITH THE WORD

Whether it’s getting up before the kids are awake or after they go to bed, spending your alone time with God is your motherhood lifeline. We can’t pour into our children day in and day out if we are not filling ourselves up with the Word of God. A Christian mom recognizes her dependence on God for all things that motherhood requires of her. She knows the spiritual discipline of being in God’s Word everyday will give her a renewed mind, as well as the strength she needs to make it throughout the busy day.

SHE CORRECTS HER CHILDREN

One of the biggest responsibilities is correcting bad behavior in her children, and this is until they are an adult. For some, it can be discouraging, we end up feeling like failures because those attitudes and behaviors that our children exhibit can seem like they can’t make good choices in life. In those moments, we can rely on the Scripture that says “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

IS A PRAYING MOMMA

A Christian mom knows that prayer is one of the greatest weapons she has. Prayer allows you to fight against the enemy in the spiritual realm, and it can lead to repentance, restoration and reconciliation, the enemy wants their life, but you decree and declare that their soul belongs to God! When they are young, we can influence and model prayer before them by kneeling down to pray with them showing by example. We do not have all the answers, but we can lead them to the One who does!

  1. Great points! These are fundamental parenting practices and lifestyle of a Christian mother. It was as though I was reading a summary of my first book. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Apt!. As parents, drawing strength from God helps a lot. 💯
I love this verse a lot when it comes to parenting “Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your path.” ❤

  3. Being able to tell our kids when we mess up, and ask their forgiveness, is a big part of seeing our failures as lessons. My kids know that I know I’m not perfect. They know I’m not afraid to own up to my failures. I think it has made it easier for them to be humble, admit when they’re wrong, and they quickly forgive each other. Your article is full of wisdom. Thank you. ♥

    1. Thank you for sharing that Adeleke. Yes, God gives us wisdom in parenting our children. The Scripture says, train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it.

Your commented made me think of the Proverbs 31 woman. The Scripture says, her husband and children rise up and call her blessed 🙌🏾.

  5. Thank you for this post I think we need more like this! It’s so difficult raising kids in the world we live in today and having to stand firm in our beliefs. It’s a different time and culture and that makes it tougher.
