Sensitization

Recently, I stumbled on a movie ad and the word ‘sensitization’ was impressed on my heart. Within a minute, I could see how our little ones are being conditioned to accept witchcraft and unbiblical ideologies. I saw everything God hates being subtly normalized through entertainment.

Sensitization refers to a change in emotional, neurological, and behavioral state after frequent exposure to a substance or condition. You can read more about sensitization here Sensitization happens over time through exposure to the same information.

How can Christians prevent themselves from being sensitized by the media? Through sacrificial living and daily communication with God (Worship, Word, Prayer, etc.). We cannot afford to be lukewarm. We must stand for truth in the face of persecution (Mark 8:38) and despise what God despises.

Let’s reflect on these Bible verses:

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 (NLT)

I pray that the eyes of our understanding would be enlightened and we will be begin to grow deeper in love with God in Jesus name.

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!

  1. Thanks, Temi, for such an important post. The subtle sensitization of our children is one that we all need to be aware of.

Recently my adult son and I were in a Starbuck’s coffee shop.
At a nearby table, arranged carefully for social distancing sat a woman, her companion, and a little boy who appeared to be about 3.
While the women were engrossed in their conversation, the boy was occupied with a small computer, or iPad.
From where I sat , I could not help but notice the images on the screen he was watching. I was frightened by them. But, as you say, Temi, children are being accustomed to ‘frightening’ things at increasingly younger ages.
Please continue with your excellent work, reminding us all to be aware of what our children are being exposed to. 🐶🤗

    1. Thank you grandma! The situation is heartbreaking. Thank you for your encouraging words. Sometimes, I am tempted to keep quiet so I am not considered a radical or overly spiritual person. I realize being silent would make me an accomplice. With God’s help, I will not back down.
      I appreciate your support! ❤

      1. Hi Temi !
The Holy Spirit gives us ‘spiritual vision’, so we can see things as God sees them.
Yes, for sure, we all experience those feelings of not wanting to be considered overly spiritual, but, exactly, as you say, with God’s help, and the power of the Holy Spirit, we won’t back down.

I have one biological grand-daughter, and now, in you, I have a spiritual grand-daughter, as well, praise God.

On a trip to Israel a few years ago, I met a fellow pilgrim, and during our pilgrimage we got to know each other.
At the end of our trip she said to me : ‘Sally, you are obsessed with God..’.
I think she meant it as somewhat of an insult, but I considered it a high compliment…😄

        1. Yay! My smile got bigger when I got to “spiritual grand-daughter”. Thank you. I am blessed to know you.
To be considered as one who is obsessed with God is a great compliment!! When one is obsessed with God, it overflows. It is difficult to hide it. I love you grandma Sally! God bless you!

          1. I love you too ! We are kindred spirits. And yes, I thought the description ‘obsessed with God’ was a great compliment. 😄🌼

  2. Yes! I’ve become more hypersenstivie to these messages- especially noticing them quickly in Disney movies and so forth. Honestly, after having kids, I can only watch certain shows. I’m very sensitive to most TV now. It’s absolutely insane some of the “age-appropriate” things the media says is okay for kids to be exposed to. Those rating systems mean nothing. I definitely have to check out the show first. A great post, Temi!

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reflecting with me. As parents, we must not be ignorant of the enemy’s devices out of love to see only God’s kingdom established in our homes. ❤

  3. You are so right regarding the sensitization of our children. For example, disney and Halloween are designed to allow children to accept witchcraft and magic as good. We are living in crucial times.
