Peacemakers: Builders of Bridges

While reading “When God Made You” to the little one, we came across this page and I learned more about peacemakers. Peacemakers are builders of bridges. They busy themselves with the ministry of reconciliation just like Jesus the Prince of Peace. 2 Corinthians 5:8 (NLT) says “And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.” Peacemakers seek to make the love of Jesus known instead of aligning themselves with satan- the one who keeps people in condemnation. While we are not responsible for the way people would respond or react to our words and actions; we can practice doing a heart-check before we speak and act. We should ask ourselves if the purpose of our words and actions is to reveal the love of God which leads to reconciliation. We should ask ourselves if the purpose of our words and actions is to prove that we are right or good people- this often lead to condemnation.

In light of the division we see in the Church today and the rise of humanism, this post serves as a reminder for us to consider the state of our hearts. Instead of shaming or condemning those whose beliefs are different from ours, we should focus on reconciliation by loving and praying for everyone. Shaming does not change people. God’s love changes people.

When we feel like we should openly judge, criticize, expose or condemn Christians we disagree with,let’s remember Romans 14:4 (NIV) which says “Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.” Our job is to pray that the veil be lifted from the eyes of those living in deception. Our job is to pray for believers everywhere (Ephesians 6:18-23) and speak the truth in love only (Ephesians 4:15). Praying and speaking the truth in love are Biblical ways to fulfill the ministry of reconciliation.
