UnAborted

You are reading this today because I was not aborted by my late mom despite external pressure.

To me, abortion is personal and it is a matter of faith. My views on this subject is not based on politics or popular opinion.

This post is for the mom considering aborting her unborn due to financial constraints or difficulties. I hear you and I see you.

This post is for Christians who are okay with abortion because our earthly governments do not really care for the unaborted ones. I hear you and I see you.

I hope you will see me, the one who was on the line for abortion.

Motherhood birth in me the need to reconnect with my late mom. I wanted to know more about her. In the process, I asked questions and did some reflections on the few years we lived this life together.

You see….

My mom was a Muslim woman who stood by her convictions. The last time I visited her, she was a janitor. She cleaned up a bank. She was once a trader too. Selling in an open marketplace. In utero and after I was born, she did not have the financial means to provide the life she desired for me. My paternal grandmother advised her to abort me, but she refused. Her own mother was supportive. My maternal grandmother was the one who told me about the abortion suggestion. I remembered she said in Yoruba “Why would a woman tell another to do such a thing..”

I wonder if my paternal grandmother’s words made my mother feel rejected by the family she was birthing into. I wonder what my father thought of my conception.

The hero here is my mother. She chose not to abort a child she had insufficient financial means to care for. I wonder if her faith and supportive mom made it possible for her to choose what was right- keeping her unborn child alive. I wonder about many things, and I have a strong conviction that a fetus is another human waiting to be fully present in the world. For a cell is the smallest unit of life. Life on earth begins once a child is conceived.

I have a strong conviction that abortion is not God’s will. It is murder and how we reword this act does not change what it is.

I have a strong conviction that I am not called to condemn those who choose to abort and those who support them.

I have a strong conviction that my duty is to be there for those who have chosen not to abort their children by providing financial support when it is in my power to do so.

I hear people say there is a special place in hell for women who do not support another woman’s right to do whatever she wants with her body, including aborting a child. I hear people say supporting another’s choice is an expression of love. I hear you and I see you. I love you and I am praying for you.

If I love my neighbor as I love myself, I would not encourage them to do what I would not do to myself. Hence, my lack of support for abortion indicates my love. I will not support that which can harm another woman and her child.

To the Christians who are okay with abortion because the government does not adequately provide for children. We need to go back to being the Church, having all things in common and caring for our neighbors (Acts 4:32). Yes, God can use the government to provide. Yet, our trust and care should never be left in the hands of an earthly government. Let’s represent heaven’s government here on earth by taking care of our neighbors. We have to press in for God’s best. Our state of mind and perception of life must differ from the world. We must represent Jesus. Wake Up!

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2

What would Jesus say to a woman considering abortion? I am certain he would not say “go ahead, it’s your choice”.

What would Jesus do? What would Jesus say? That’s what we should ask ourselves.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13

To the Christians being censored or canceled for speaking the truth, I hear you and I see you. I am kneeling with you.

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. John 15:18-20

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5:11-12

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!
