Happy Married Life

A few weeks ago, my husband and I celebrated half a decade of covenant marital relationship. I used half a decade so that it can sound like a long time. Lol. I have been friends with my husband since 1999. So, it’s okay for me to feel like I have known him for decades.

What I am Learning:

Spiritual well-being is of utmost importance

In our first years of marriage, I used to be upset about my spouse’s long hours of prayer and Bible study. Now I treasure them and thank God for every moment we get to focus on our spiritual well-being.

I have given my spouse permission to call me out when he senses something is off with my spiritual life and check in on my spiritual well-being. And I do the same with him.

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: Ephesians 4:15

Resolve issues quickly, and Don’t give pride a place

Disagreements and misunderstandings are inevitable. Resolving issues before going to bed prevents us from meditating on lies and faults long enough till they lead to bitterness or resentment.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: ~ Ephesians 4:26 (KJV)

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.~Ephesians 4:31 (KJV)

Also, we have learned that it is pointless to pray when we have unresolved issues. Therefore, we have no choice but to lay down our pride and ask one another for forgiveness.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. ~ Mark 11:25 (KJV)

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. ~ 1 Peter 3:7 (KJV)

Instead of praying that God should make my husband do what I want, I pray that God gives him wisdom to make the best decision for the family. It works!! God’s way is better than my way or my husband’s way.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9 (KJV)

Mindfulness

Despite all I have going on, I am learning to be mindful of my husband’s needs and avoid taking him for granted. I am becoming more intentional about honoring and listening to understand my spouse.

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Romans 12:10 (KJV)

I have learned these things by meditating on God’s Word, listening to and observing the lives of Christian couples who have happy marriages. Like parenting, marriage is a learning process.

Thank you for reading.

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!
