Hope in Persecution: Acts 13:6-12

What can Christians do amid persecution? Pray and encourage one another. In this blog series, I share warfare prayers and words of encouragement from the Book of Acts to win the battle against the enemies of the gospel.

Amid persecution, we must not be swayed by evil reports. Our eyes must be on the greatness of our God and the authority He has given believers and the church. We must remember that the enemy never wins, he is still dumb enough to think he can defeat the church of Christ and win against God. The one who sits in heaven laughs (Psalms 2:4).

What the enemy has orchestrated to destroy God’s people can be turned around for good. The enemy is NOT all-knowing, and this great weakness allows us to defeat him. Today, we will pray against the plan of the enemy to discourage and weaken the faith of believers in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and other nations faced with terrorism.

Please read Acts 13:6-12 (KJV) attentively and let hope arise in you.

And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus: Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season.

And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

The sorcerer was a tool in the devil’s hands. He planned to stop the deputy from hearing God’s Word, but his plan led to his downfall and the salvation of the deputy. The salvation of the deputy must have led to the massive salvation of souls in the country. Paul destroyed the demonic stronghold against the gospel through the HolyGhost power. Also, God’s hand caused the sorcerer to become blind.

Before praying, let us yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit and invite the Holy Spirit to help us to pray.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your mighty acts. You are omnipotent, and no power can stand against you. Father, in the name of Jesus, strike those working against the spread of the gospel in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and other nations with blindness. As they embark on a mission to destroy innocent lives, let them be struck with blindness and confusion. In the name of Jesus, let the plan of terrorist groups to discourage and weaken the faith of Christians fail, thereby leading to the salvation of many souls. Arise, oh Lord, and let your enemies be scattered!

Please pray with the Holy Spirit and with your understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15).

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!
