Jesus on Adultery

You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

Matthew 5: 27-30 (NLT)

There is a lot to unpack from these scriptures. I will leave five points for reflection:

  1. Adultery begins with the heart, not with the act.
  2. Emotional affair is adultery.
  3. Watching porn is adultery.
  4. We must guard our eyes and heart.
  5. Adultery is a violation of God’s will concerning marriage. Tolerating adulterous thoughts will eventually lead to adulterous acts. Both send the soul to hell.
  6. It is important to have a spiritual purpose to not engage in adultery. Like Jesus said, let’s think about eternity. Thinking about how one’s spouse would feel is not enough to keep one from adultery. Being eternity-conscious makes a greater difference.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for my marriage. In the name of Jesus, teach me to guard my eyes and heart from adultery and give me the grace to live eternity-conscious.

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!
