Promise Keeper

God is Our Promise Keeper

Welcome to the “Promise Keeper” series, where we explore God’s promises to build our faith and stir our souls. Today, let’s reflect on the profound truth of Numbers 23:19, “God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?”

Abba Father is indeed a Promise Keeper!

A Word of Edification to the Daughters of God

In these times, God’s promises to His daughters are being fulfilled. This message is close to my heart, especially after an experience with my daughter. She was anxious about a new opportunity, worried about what could go wrong. Before I could even process her concerns, I declared, “THIS OPPORTUNITY IS NO SECRET TO GOD; ALL WILL BE WELL.”

Why was I so confident in this truth? “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory; NO GOOD THING WILL HE WITHHOLD FROM THEM THAT WALK UPRIGHTLY,” Psalm 84:11.

A few days earlier, while writing, I was deeply moved by God’s promises. The words “Where God guides, He provides”. Though I knew this intellectually, it wasn’t until I faced a situation needing this promise that I fully grasped its power. God is our present help in times of trouble. After all, He is the MOST HIGH God.

Numbers 23:19, “God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?”

The book of Numbers recounts the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness after their deliverance from slavery in Egypt. It was a time of uncertainty and transition, marked by doubt and disobedience. The Israelites often questioned their future and God’s promises. In a culture of instability, where human leaders frequently failed to keep their word, God’s unwavering nature stood in stark contrast.

Are you in your version of transition? In between where you are, traveling in what could feel like a wilderness, en route to a promise, with feelings of instability emerging in your mind and heart? Are you beginning to doubt or, even worse, feel defeated?

Remember, God’s ways are not your ways… His promises are YES and AMEN (2 Corinthians 1:20)

The Context of Numbers 23:19

This verse is part of a larger story involving Balaam, a prophet summoned by Balak, the king of Moab, to curse the Israelites. Balak feared Israel’s growing strength and sought to weaken them through a curse. However, God intervened, instructing Balaam to bless His people instead. Whatever is forming against you, remember this promise: “IT SHALL NOT PROSPER” (emphasis taken from Isaiah 54:17 NKJV).

Despite Balak’s persistence, Balaam could only declare what God had put in his mouth. Here, we encounter the profound truth of Numbers 23:19. Balaam proclaims God’s unchanging and truthful nature in contrast to man’s fickle and unreliable nature. This statement is pivotal because it reassures the Israelites—and us today—that God’s promises are steadfast.

Trusting in God’s Promises

Just as Balaam could only speak God’s words, we, as God’s daughters, should fill our mouths with His promises. His words are eternal and true. God’s faithfulness provides a solid foundation. He speaks and acts; He promises and fulfills.

As we navigate life’s uncertainties, let us hold fast to the truth that God is our Promise Keeper. His nature is unchanging, and His promises are sure. May we find peace and assurance knowing that the MOST HIGH God is faithful and true.

Remember that God is with us in times of doubt, guiding and providing. Let His words and promises fill our hearts and minds, strengthening our faith and stirring our souls.

God’s promises are a firm foundation. His faithfulness is a constant in an ever-changing world. As we journey through this “Promise Keeper” series, let us embrace and declare His promises, knowing that our God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should change His mind. He is our faithful, unchanging Promise Keeper.
