As we continue our journey through the ABCs of Life, let’s build on the foundation of faith by learning the importance of valuing people. When we view others through God’s eyes, it not only transforms our relationships but deepens our faith. Just as faith is the glue that holds our hearts together, valuing others strengthens the bond we share with them and reflects the love of Christ to the world. Fellowship with others is in the fabric of the DNA of a believer in Jesus Christ.
First, practice seeing others as God does. Ephesians 1:8 reminds us of the incredible grace He lavishes on us. Each person we encounter is His creation, designed with unique gifts and a purpose. By viewing people through this lens, we begin to see their worth and treat them with respect and kindness. This includes letting go of bitterness and unforgiveness, as Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:14-15. Harboring resentment only weighs us down. Instead, choose to forgive, freeing your heart and allowing His love to flow through you.
Every person has something to teach us, as 1 Corinthians 12:12-29 illustrates in the metaphor of the body of Christ. Just as each part has a distinct role, each individual brings something unique that we may lack. Celebrate these differences, for they are hidden treasures crafted by God Himself (Ephesians 2:10). Embracing diversity allows us to see a fuller picture of God’s creativity and glory.
Listening is also essential in valuing others. James 1:19 encourages us to be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” Every person carries a story, a unique journey filled with triumphs and trials. Sometimes, what isn’t said reveals more than words. Take the time to listen with empathy, allowing others to feel seen and understood.
And don’t wait to express appreciation. Jesus calls us to love one another as He loved us (John 15:12-13). Telling others, you value them brings light into their lives and strengthens the bond between you. Let’s not assume people know they’re appreciated—tell them now.
Finally, remember that most people are doing the best they can. Life can be challenging, and everyone carries burdens unseen by others. Matthew 10:8 reminds us to freely give grace, just as we have freely received it. Showing compassion, patience, and understanding toward others fosters an environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged.
This week, as you go about your day, look for opportunities to value those around you. Be generous with your words, kind in your actions, and attentive to their stories. This not only blesses others but draws you closer to the heart of God, who values each of us beyond measure.
