Dear First-time Momma,
Today we celebrate the awesomeness that is you. God created your amazing body, mind and soul and He saw that what He made was good (Genesis 1:31).
Your body went through mind blowing changes to house, nurture and sustain a human life for nine months! You went through the excruciating process of labor, or underwent Cesarean surgery to bring forth your precious little angel. Your birth story deserves high recognition and award.
A mother’s recognition is not found in a tangible trophy but a trophy you get everyday you wake up to find a little chest rising and falling. You take pride in your little one’s smile and preference for you above any other creature on this planet.
Each first time mama is faced with her own unique set of challenges, adjustments and physical/mental/emotional stamina. Some mothers go through extra postpartum challenges and complications from delivery or baby health issues. I have a deep respect for immensely brave and strong moms who always find strength to nurse your little one, or keep night watch over an ailing baby regardless of deep and penetrating exhaustion. As we celebrate mother’s day, my gift to you are words of encouragement and prayer.
SEEK HELP, WE ALL NEED HELP
Some of you moms struggle with lethargy, depression and can’t seem to develop the expected mommy-bond happy feelings with your new born. You keep waiting for what the world around you expects to come so naturally. You do all you can to get out of bed to nurse your child and crawl back in. Days turn into weeks and morph into months with little or no improvement. You need to reach out on time for help. It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child. Now is the time to ask for help so you can be the best mother for your child.
This is God’s promise:
But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
– Isaiah 40:31
This is my prayer for you:
May the joy of the Lord be your strength. May the God of all peace comfort you and still your anxious heart. May the Lord renew your mind, let his light shine through the thick heavy clouds of depression. May God remove every spirit of fear and give you a spirit of love, hope and sound mind. Amen.
YOU ARE UNIQUE
No matter what shape, size or form of challenge you are facing as a new momma, please take heart and be encouraged. This is NOT the time to compare yourself to a super mom you know who seems to be juggling a house full of kids, a CEO Boss type career, school, and church duties like a pro, all the while saving the world in her free time. Each of us went through a new momma stage and our growth and adjustment process is unique to us.
ASK GOD FOR WISDOM
Always ask God for wisdom and He is more than happy to grant it to you (James 1:5). Wisdom in managing yourself, your family, your work and all areas of your life. Ask God to direct your steps to the tools you need and people who can help you out.
Do you know something amazing? God said in his Word that He does not give us more than what we can handle. Many of us are struggling to do this “Momma” thing all on our own and are failing woefully. Ask God for the grace, wisdom and resources to be the best woman, wife and momma He created you to be!
TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR UNIQUE MOTHERHOOD JOURNEY
I challenge you today to focus on and take pride in your victories, lessons learned and all the amazing milestones your precious one is achieving. Look at that angelic sweet face and realize what an amazing job you are doing. Keeping a tiny human alive, well fed and clean is no small feat my dear momma.
