Day 6: Are there Ghosts in the Nursery?

Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Exodus 34:7 (KJV)

The nursery can be described as the place of security for the child.  The Nursery is the parent-child relationship. Trauma and generational issues often show up uninvited like ghosts to interfere with parent-infant relationship and continue the inter-generational cycle of trauma.  A mother who was abused and neglected as a child may become an abusive mother.  Some parents just seem to fail despite telling themselves, “I want something better for my child” or “I don’t want my child to experience what I experienced as a child”.

Several studies show that parents who suppressed emotions of childhood trauma transferred trauma to their children.  Studies in the field of Infant Mental Health show that parents begin to heal and empathize with their infants after they remember the grief, and pain they felt in early childhood.  They finally felt what their children were feeling and could not tolerate having their children feel what they felt as children.  All these were carried out in a therapeutic setting. If you are concerned about family history of trauma, you can ask God to lead you to a good therapist. You can claim and enforce your redemption from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13).

Are there issues in your life that may prevent you from creating a nurturing and responsive environment for your child?  Are there issues that may prevent you from connecting with your newborn? Ask God to show you things that may interfere with your ability to connect with your little one.  It is time to get to the root of problems, uproot and destroy them before the roots go deeper. Your alliance with God can put an end to the cycle of trauma in your lineage.

Prayer: Thank you father that you have redeemed my family from the curse of the Law because of Jesus.  I receive your freedom and declare victory over generational curses in Jesus name.
