What is a mother?
I pondered this question deeply, not merely through the lens of biology or gender, but through the weight of her influence, the sacredness of her assignment, and the eternal impact she carries within the Kingdom of God.
A mother.
What is a mother?
Before pouring out my heart, I searched the sacred text. And what I discovered moved me deeply.
Motherhood was mentioned before Eve was ever called “the mother of all living.”
In the Book of Genesis 2:24, scripture declares:
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
Pause and consider this carefully.
At this point in scripture, Eve had not yet conceived. Humanity had not yet multiplied. Yet God had already spoken of “mother.”
A blueprint existed before the manifestation appeared.
A divine order was established before it became visible in the natural world.
And I believe there is profound hope hidden in that truth.
Because motherhood is more than a title.
It is an ordained assignment.
A spiritual stewardship.
A calling that reflects the nurturing heart of God Himself.
From the very beginning, family mattered to God.
Legacy mattered to God.
Generations mattered to God.
The home was never designed to be insignificant in the Kingdom.
It was designed to be foundational.
And mothers carry a sacred role within that foundation.
They nurture faith.
Cultivate wisdom.
Build atmosphere.
Shape hearts.
Model tenderness, endurance, discipline, prayer, and devotion.
Long before the world ever recognized the value of a mother, heaven already established her significance.
But today, I also want to speak tenderly to the women who carry the desire for motherhood in their hearts.
The women who love children.
The women who have prayed quietly.
The women who have waited faithfully.
The women who are navigating disappointment, infertility, grief, miscarriage, delay, or unanswered questions.
I want to honor you today alongside manifested mothers.
As I sat before the Lord asking what He desired to say for Mother’s Day, my heart became overwhelmed with compassion for mothers-in-waiting. And I truly believe there is a woman reading this whose prayers have filled heaven for years.
You have wondered if God remembers.
You have questioned the timing.
You have tried to remain faithful while carrying silent heartbreak.
And I want you to know this:
God sees you.
Not only your tears, but your longing.
Not only your waiting, but your faithfulness within the waiting.
The conversation surrounding motherhood in scripture is fascinating because it begins before motherhood physically appears. The sequence matters.
Adam is formed.
Adam names creation.
No suitable helper is found.
Woman is built from Adam’s rib.
Adam responds poetically:
“Bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.”
And then comes what almost sounds like a prophetic declaration:
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother…”
Motherhood was spoken into existence before it manifested naturally.
That realization shifted something deeply within me.
Because it reveals a pattern we see throughout scripture:
God often establishes things spiritually before they appear physically.
He called Abraham the father of many nations before the promise manifested.
He called Gideon mighty while he still felt fearful.
He called light forth while darkness still covered the deep.
God speaks prophetically into potential.
And perhaps today, He is inviting some of His daughters to see their story in His Word again.
Not through striving.
Not through fear.
But through faith, hope, and alignment.
The Word of God is not merely history to admire.
It is living truth that reveals the nature, heart, and intentions of God.
So today, if your heart carries the desire for motherhood, I encourage you not to surrender your hope to disappointment.
Instead, align your heart with truth.
Declare what heaven has already spoken.
Repeat this slowly:
I will be a mother.
God has not forgotten me.
He sees me, remembers me, and loves me.
I align myself with His wisdom, timing, and purpose for my life.
I will trust the Author of my story.
I know this may feel unusual to some, but I believe the Lord is stirring expectation again.
Not pressure.
Not performance.
Expectation.
Because as believers, we are not called to passively endure life without hope. Through prayer, faith, agreement with God’s Word, obedience, and trust, we participate with heaven.
Faith reaches toward what God has spoken.
Consider Hannah, the mother of Samuel. Her reality had not yet changed, but something within her shifted before her circumstances ever did. Her sorrow became surrendered expectation. Her posture changed before her promise appeared.
And perhaps that is where transformation begins for many of us:
first internally,
then externally.
Here at Christian Mommas, we believe motherhood is more than caretaking.
It is discipleship.
It is stewardship.
It is legacy-building.
It is partnering with God to cultivate hearts, homes, and generations that honor Him.
Whether you are mothering naturally, spiritually, through adoption, mentorship, leadership, homeschooling, nurturing, or prayer, your life carries the power to influence generations.
That is the impact of a mother.
So this Mother’s Day, I pray your heart is filled with renewed hope.
For the manifested mother:
May you remember the sacredness of your assignment.
For the weary mother:
May God strengthen you again.
For the homeschooling mother:
May grace meet you within the daily rhythms of teaching and nurturing.
For the grieving mother:
May God comfort you tenderly.
For the mother-in-waiting:
May hope rise again within your soul.
And for every woman carrying silent prayers:
May you remember that God is still writing stories that have not yet unfolded.
You are seen.
You are loved.
And your nurturing spirit has eternal value in the eyes of God.
With love,
Dr. Shenica
