One thing I desired before marriage was to have a great relationship with my parents-in-law. I actually prefer to call them parents-in-love. Few months ago, I celebrated my mother-in-law for her love.
Whether we like it or not, our parents-in-law come with the package when we marry our spouse. Our relationship with them can either hurt or foster love in our marriage. The health of our marriage ultimately impacts our children’s lives.
Let your spouse honor his or her parents: Don’t forget they have also become your parents. Some of us have no model of healthy parent-child relationship and most times we bring that into our marriage. The Bible tells us to honor our parents. There was no condition attached to it, just do it. Honor doesn’t mean letting them control our life or home. Read more about honor here and here. Do you want things to go well for your spouse and your family like God promised in Exodus 20:12? Honor your parents and parents-in-law.
How to Honor your Parents-in-law
Let your spouse take care of his or her parents when financially possible and sacrificially. Don’t speak bad about your in-laws. We are our children’s first role-model. They hear what we say about grandpa and grandma. Sow the seed of honor and you watch God keep his promise. I have seen this principle work in my life, I have listened to messages about this subject, and I have seen it at work in other people’s lives.
Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land the LORD your God is giving you; this is the first commandment with a promise (Ephesians 6:2, Exodus 20:12)
Honor makes us honorable!
How do you honor your parents-in-law? Please share your thoughts.
Great post. It is so refreshing to hear someone speak highly of their in-laws. In today’s society especially on TV, they are given a bad name. God bless you my dear.
Amen! Thank you for the comment. The culture of honor isn’t celebrated these days and the media isn’t helping.
great post; my friend. Parents’ in law should be honored, they are the reason we have a spouse 🙂
Yes! Thank you for the comment. I think most people forget their spouse didn’t drop from heaven.
🙂 🙂 haha.. that’s a good one
🤭
My parents in-law are living in Nigeria, and we don’t get to see often. But they are amazing and wonderful people. Thank you for sharing this post. In-laws are always stereotyped as bad and wicked people. God bless you for sharing.
Amen. Thank you for the comment. Same here, my parents-in-law also live in Nigeria but they visit us every year. Most of us will become parents-in-law someday, i think we often forget that.
That’s true❤️❤️
This is wonderful! I hear many people speak negatively about their in-laws, it’s refreshing to hear you are honoring yours. 😊
Thank you ❤️. Negativity is too common.
Beautiful post dear sis, such a godly and much needed viewpoint on Parents in law. Honestly you have made me rethink ways I can redouble my efforts in honoring my parents in love
Thank you. It’s good to know it had an effect♥️. Thank you for the reflective comment.
Oh and P.S. I don’t think we are directly answering your last question. Distance shouldn’t make me be a stranger. I need to pray for Holy Spirit wisdom on this issue
Amen. God gives wisdom to those who ask 🙏 Thank you♥️
