King Ahaz & King Hezekiah
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah. Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah.
Matthew 1:9-10 (NIV)
Ahaz was a foolish and wicked king. His lack of spiritual discernment was costly to his children and nation. He burned his children in fire (See 2 Chronicles 28). Thankfully, Ahaz’s son, King Hezekiah, learned from his father’s mistake. It is possible that his mother, Abijah, the daughter of Zechariah, had a stronger and more positive influence on him.
Let’s ponder and point our children to this truth–Jesus came to help us break free from negative generational patterns or curses. The power of the Holy Spirit is greater than ancestral spirits.
King Manasseh
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah. Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah
Matthew 1:9-10 (NIV)
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah. Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah…Matthew 1:9-10 (NIV)
While King Hezekiah served God wholeheartedly, his son started off his reign by destroying his father’s legacy. King Manasseh’s evil was great. He consulted the stars, familiar spirits, desecrated God’s temple, made his children pass through fire, and did more evil than the idol worshippers who lived in the kingdom before him (see 2 Chronicles 33). Despite all these, God forgave him when he repented, turned away from his sins.
Let’s ponder and point our children to this truth–Jesus came to restore our relationship with God even if we have a family history of occultism. Jesus came as God’s mastercraftful strategy for restoring our dominion over every evil power.
King Josiah
Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
Matthew 1:10-11 (NIV)
While King Manasseh learned from his mistakes and repented from his evil ways, his son, King Amon, did not learn from his father’s errors (see 2 Chronicles 33:22-23). Thankfully, King Amon’s son, King Josiah, loved God. This was the testimony about him–“Never before had there been a king like Josiah, who turned to the LORD with all his heart and soul and strength, obeying all the laws of Moses. And there has never been a king like him since.” 2 Kings 23:25
Let’s ponder and point our children to this truth--Jesus came to teach and empower us to live as kings obeying two commandments, love God and people.
King Jeconiah
Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
Matthew 1:10-11 (NIV)
King Josiah died young because He did not discern God’s voice while following his passion–destroying God’s enemies. His death was nationally traumatic, and Prophet Jeremiah composed funeral songs for him. Unfortunately, his son, King Jeconiah reigned for only 3 months–He was deposed and imprisoned by the same enemy responsible for his father’s death. King Jeconiah died as a prisoner.
Let’s ponder and point our children to this truth–Jesus came to free us from all kinds of captivity and empower us to discern God’s voice.
