Benefits of the Word of God

Welcome to a new week of revelation! Last week, I ended the post with a very profound but simple question: What can you expect God to do for you as you plant the seed of the word of God in your heart? This week, I aim to provide a sound and genuine response.

God Desires For US To Benefit From The Gift Of His Word

When I was growing up, my mother was skilled in embroidery. I was fascinated with her whole process of using all the beautifully colored threads. I watched as she threaded the needle, and then, with it, she went in and out of the pattern on the cloth to create an actual image. When she completed the process, my mother would trim all the threads on the back to neat things up. TADA! A beautiful wall hanging!

God must have noted my keen interest in seeing the maze of gorgeously colored threads intermingled on the backside of the wooden hoop.  While meditating on the Word one day, I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Remember watching your Mama embroider?  God’s Word is somewhat like a tapestry or embroidery canvas.  When the tapestry or embroidery work is seen from the underside, there are many colored threads, but you do not see the image until you view it from the topside.”  Then, He spoke the most beautiful picture of God’s Word to my heart.  He said, “The various colored threads on the underside of the canvas represent the verses, chapters, and books of the Bible that, taken together, paint a vibrant portrait of the Lord Jesus Christ.”  TADA!

DIGGING FOR THE HIDDEN TREASURE IN THE WORD OF GOD

Proverbs 25:2: “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the honor of kings is to search it out.”

His written Word reveals the Living Word, Jesus. God says that you and I, His born-again children, are kings and priests (Revelation 1:6); imagine that!  As such, He expects us to uncover the mystery of Who He is and, in the process, find how we fit into His glorious plan.

Now, you and I must dig to reveal the hidden treasure in His Word.  Get your shovel and come with me to discover the hidden wealth buried in His Word just for you and me!  We must never stop with a single gold nugget, but, like the prospector, we keep searching diligently for the mother lode.  You and I can never wholly use the Word up as if there is an end to our discovery. There is always a new jewel to be found! Glory to God! The vast goodness and wisdom of our God humble me!

Many of the natural resources in the world, such as water, coal, oil, gas, gold, and diamonds, are hidden deep within the earth.  Even pearls are covered and must be found and taken from their sheltered environment for us to use them and appreciate their beauty.  Great effort and expense must be expended to dig those precious resources out to utilize their value for our natural lives.  How much more should we be willing to search out the Scriptures to find eternal, spiritual, life-giving truths that can enrich our natural and infinite lives?  Come with me to discover a treasure trove of spiritual bread and water in the Bible that will fill and keep filling us with the only nourishment that genuinely satisfies and makes us prosperous in every facet of our lives.  Once we are born again, we must, by faith, rely on His Word and the Holy Spirit’s guidance to fulfill our every need.  Without utilizing His provision, we can get no absolute, lasting satisfaction from the gift of His Word.  God does not work alone.  He needs you and me to complete His work on the earth. It is our responsibility to learn more about God’s sovereignty.
