Advent: Waiting With Wonder

As we continue through this beautiful Advent season, I want to gently draw your heart back to the purpose of these weeks: waiting, watching, and welcoming the presence of Christ afresh. Advent is not merely a countdown to Christmas—it is an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and behold the wonder of a God who chooses to draw near.

This week, as we meditate on the hope, peace, joy, and love that Advent symbolizes, I want to share a resource from the Christian Mommas community that will enrich your journey: our YouVersion Bible Reading Plan, “5 Days of Christmas Truths.”

Have You Ever Wondered What You May Have Missed in the Christmas Story?

Familiarity can make us overlook the extraordinary. We read the story of Mary, Joseph, the manger, and the shepherds year after year—but how often do we stop and ask:

“Holy Spirit, what deeper truths have I missed?”

In this devotional, I invite you to explore the birth of Jesus and the life of Mary with new eyes. What might the Lord reveal when we pause long enough to listen? What wisdom might emerge when we refuse to skim past the mystery and instead sit with the miracle?

For me, this fresh reading reminds me of Paul’s words:

“Christ emptied Himself…” (Philippians 2:7)

The Eternal wrapped Himself in time.
The Almighty clothed Himself in weakness.
Deity entered humanity—quietly, humbly, almost hidden.

He entered what looked like poverty in the natural, yet His sovereignty radiated through every moment.
This is the beauty of Advent: the God who comes low enough to lift us high.

Let the Scripture Come Alive

As you meditate on the Christmas narrative this week, give yourself permission to slow down. Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate what the text reveals beyond the words on the page. Engage your sanctified imagination. Notice the details you may have overlooked. See what isn’t explicitly written, yet is revealed through prayerful, Spirit-led reflection.

Sit with the Word until the Word speaks.

Let yourself be drawn into new dimensions of understanding—into a sound, loving, Spirit-renewed perspective of Jesus’ sacrificial love unveiled through His birth.

Advent is the perfect season to cultivate stillness… to allow revelation to rise… to receive the truth that transforms.
