Many events caused our hearts to be troubled this year. People or events made us lose peace. Thankfully, the Bible teaches us how to keep peace, so we can be peacemakers. We cannot be peacemakers if we don’t have peace, and we cannot give what we don’t have. As we enter into 2021, meditating on these scriptures will help us keep peace:
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. 2 Peter 1:2 (NLT)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 (NLT)
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
I lose peace whenever I put my trust in self, try to accomplish things in my own strength, doubt God’s Word, get involved in unnecessary arguments, fall into the trap of comparison, pay attention to popular media, meditate on lies…etc. Sounds familiar? Peace is restored when I choose to think in alignment with God’s Word, and intentionally choose what and who I give my attention to.
The one who is peace lives in those who believe in Him- the prince of peace. When we live with a strong awareness of this truth and grow in the knowledge of God, we will have peace and be peacemakers.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27 (KJV)
