LOVE WALK

“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Galatians 5:16 (NIV)

Does anyone find it hard sometimes to put your emotions aside and walk in love with your spouse?

Have you ever had a disagreement with your spouse and perhaps said something that you shouldn’t have said?

Have you dwelt on a thought that was not noble, right, pure, lovely, or admirable?

In Galatians 5:16, we see an assurance of what happens when we walk in the Spirit. The result is that we would not gratify the desires of the flesh. In other words, we won’t do the things that our flesh desires when we “yield to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit,” as the TPT version puts it.

Walking by the Spirit can also be described as walking in love as Galatians 5:22 tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is love. Therefore, love comes from our Spirits. As new creations in Christ Jesus, we have the capacity to love at all times.

One of the most fundamental strategies to maintaining a healthy relationship is to walk in love. Now, as hard as this can sometimes be, walking in love can mean different things depending on the situation.

But in general, here are five things we can do daily to help us walk by the Spirit or walk in love in our relationships:

  1. Spend quality time praying (James 5:16)
  2. Devote time to reading and studying the Bible (2 Timothy 2:15)
  3. Confess who you are in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:10)
  4. Be slow to speak and quick to listen (James 1:19)
  5. Sing praises to the Lord and make melodies in your heart to God (Ephesians 5:19)- you don’t need to have a beautiful singing voice to do this! 😉

And as a result, you would find it much easier to put your emotions aside and walk in love. Your words will be seasoned with grace, so that careless words won’t come out of your mouth. And lastly, your mind would be renewed so that you are able to think about things that are noble, right, pure, lovely or admirable.

Remain conscious of who you are in Christ Jesus and enjoy your relationships as you walk by the Spirit, so you do not gratify the desires of the flesh.
