Breastfeeding and Weaning Tips

I am getting close to reclaiming my boobs. It will no longer be used as a pacifier, midnight snack, daytime comforter, bonding tool, and all the good stuffs associated with breastfeeding. It’s been a slow and steady weaning process for the little one and it has been quite an easy journey for me. I am thankful for it and will stay positive as I come to the end of my breastfeeding journey this week.

I wish I could write a blog on “5 things to make breastfeeding and weaning easy”..I just don’t have the answers..Thankfully, I can share few things that worked for me.

First, I asked God to make breastfeeding easy for me. Yes, I like to ask God for everything and anything. I asked God to give me wisdom because I didn’t want to depend on Google all the time. I also needed help filtering the breastfeeding information I was bombarded with. I just like to ask God for help first. I no longer believe in “turn to God when all else fails”. I have tried that and it’s a waste of time. It’s better to talk to God first and let Him intervene in any way He chooses. Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV): In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

I found the following posters during a medical visit at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany. The little one was 4 days old and we were still learning the act of latching. The information was timely and very useful.

I was gifted a nipple cream but I never used it. When I had a minor crack, I made sure I was more diligent about cleaning my nipples (let it air-dry sometimes) and applied breast milk to the cracked area.

Please note that I was a SAHM for a year and the little one refused milk in bottles. So, I used a breast pump about 7 times or less. I breastfed on demand and exclusively for the first 4-5 months.

As the little one began to eat more solid food, my milk supply began to drop.

When I started working outside the home, there were days I came home with almost rock-solid breasts. It was uncomfortable to touch but there was relief once the little one was breastfed. The number of breastfeeding times decreased gradually to the point I only breastfeed 2 times a day.

This week, I will be completely away from the little one for the first time since he was born. My plan is to use those few days away as an opportunity to wean the little one off breastmilk completely. Breastfeeeding has been an easy journey for me and I look forward to ending it without pain and stress. I pray weaning ends well for me and the little one.

Please share your breastfeeding and weaning experience/tips in the comment section below.

God bless your home ♥️
