After signing a petition for families in the United States to receive up to 12 weeks of paid leave post-partum, I started thinking about the power to influence policies. Last year, I wrote a post about finding favor on my job to encourage mothers to trust God on their jobs.
Is it possible for a Christian mother to influence workplace policies for the benefit of her family and other women in her workplace? Absolutely. You just need to catch the revelation in God’s Word. We need continuous revelation about who God is, our identity, and God’s will. We need continuous fellowship with God to see God’s heart and live in the fullness of God’s will.
In the Bible, we see the followers of God influencing policies. Daniel, Joseph, Nehemiah, Esther, Moses and other believers. They understood that there is a God in heaven who does miracles for His followers. They knew their God, personally. Not just about Him. Here are scriptures to remind you that you serve a God who does great things for those who love Him:
You are the only God ever seen or heard of who works miracles for his followers. ~ Isaiah 64:4 (CEV)
For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. Isaiah 64:4 (KJV)
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. ~ I Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen ~ Ephesians 3:19-20 (KJV)
For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. ~ Psalm 84:11 (KJV)
As I reflect on the scriptures above with a strong belief that God wants the best for His children, I cannot help but share this message of hope. Is 4-6 months paid maternity leave a good thing? of course it is. Is equal pay for the same job a good thing? of course it is.
We do not have to be victims of unjust policies. We can change policies by signing petitions for justice and more importantly, we can bring those policies and workplace issues to God on our knees. We will not experience heaven on earth, if we do not tell God we want to experience heaven on earth.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. ~ Matthew 6:9-10
Jesus said we should pray for God’s will to be done in earth. When we want a pay raise, paid maternity leave, promotion, wisdom to perform extraordinary on our jobs, healing for our clients, etc., we should ask ourselves- “what is God will in this situation?”. God’s will concerning every situation is in the Bible. This is why we should not be too busy to study the Word and get divine revelation about every situation.
Studying the Word means you are interested in knowing what God has said or says concerning a situation. We demonstrate our love for God by studying and living the Word. When we love someone, we want to hear his/her voice. When we are in love, we stay on the phone for hours just listening to our lover. If we truly want to live a victorious life and grow in faith, we must study and live the Word.
I pray that Ephesians 1:17-18 become a reality in our lives:
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints ~ Ephesians 1:17-18
When Ephesians 1:17-18 becomes real to us, we will no longer be “winging it” or “barely surviving”. We will begin to KNOW God and this will cause us to thrive on our jobs, in motherhood, in marriage and in life. Our relationship with God will no longer be a means to an end, but the reason we want God’s will to prevail on earth. If you believe or think this is possible, then you shall have it. Have faith in God. Receive favor.
For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. ~ Psalm 5:12 (KJV)
