Weaker Vessels

Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7 (KJV)

1 Peter 3:7 is a controversial Bible verse because some individuals do not want the wife to be described as “the weaker vessel.” As for me, I am thankful to be the weaker vessel because I see weaker vessels as delicate vessels needing proper care. I am thankful for the honor I receive as the weaker vessel. Most times we miss the point and hinder our access to spiritual insight when we read God’s Word through our cultural lenses.

It is a dangerous thing to have one’s prayers hindered. God is calling husbands to a high standard. The Bible is not misogynistic.

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!

  1. I had prayed about this passage because it was being used out of context to imply that women are weaker all the way around, including being more sinful. And the Lord showed me also that the command for husbands is to deal with their wives gently. They are not to take advantage of their physical strength or their leadership role, but to deal with their wives delicately, gently, or their prayers will be hindered.
God truly cares. No misogyny at all.
