Mary’s Song

And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”

Mary was a woman of praise! She sang when she met Elizabeth.

Praise shifts the atmosphere, and it heightens our awareness of God’s presence.

I have not been depressed or anxious in a long time. Usually, my depression or anxiety stems from my impatience and fixation on my inadequacies and challenges. When I praise God, my mind is on God’s grace, greatness, and goodness. Thus, my soul magnifies the Lord, and anxiety or depression loses its grip on me. Praising God is how I break depression and anxiety. Praising God can help you rise above perinatal depression and anxiety.

If you are a new or expecting parent: Praise God, the creator of the child in your womb. Praise God, the one who gives strength to the weak. Like Mary, praise God for the privilege to mother your child. Also, take a moment and sing Mary’s song of praise (Luke 1:46-55) in your little one’s nursery or sleeping space.

Let’s fill our homes with songs of praise today and every day. The atmosphere changes with songs of praise to God, and our little ones will be equipped with another weapon of spiritual warfare (they are listening and learning).

How can you rise above fear, depression, and anxiety as a new or expecting mom? Join Temi Michael-O as she shares how Mary, the mother of Jesus, modeled how to take charge of spiritual and emotional wellness in the perinatal period.

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!
