Today is the first day of Advent and my first time deeply paying attention to Advent…perhaps, it is because the first little one has the spiritual and cognitive capacity to learn about Jesus’s birth and second coming.
Celebrating Advent, the days/weeks leading up to the celebration of Jesus’s birth, present opportunities for us to intentionally reflect on the reasons Jesus came and God’s love for humanity.
So, what can we do this week to celebrate Advent? Discuss Jesus’s family tree with our children. Let’s highlight how Jesus’s genealogy in Matthew’s account begins with Abraham, an idol worshipper God called out to start a new family and faith adventure because God is not ashamed of our story.
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers.
Matthew 1:1-2 (NKJV)
