As Advent fills the days with anticipation, we are invited to prepare our hearts for the arrival of Christ, the Messiah. Advent, derived from the Latin word adventus meaning “coming,” is a season of waiting, reflection, and hope. It is a sacred time to draw near to the story of Jesus and marvel at His profound selflessness.
Jesus, fully God and fully man, entered a broken world to offer us life—a choice marked by humility and sacrifice. His birth in a lowly manger foreshadowed His mission: to serve and save. In Philippians 2:7, we read how He “emptied himself, taking the form of a servant.” Every moment of His earthly life reflected His self-giving love—healing the sick, feeding the hungry, teaching truth, and ultimately laying down His life on the cross.
Yet the story does not end with His death. Jesus rose in victory, not only demonstrating His divine power but also fulfilling the promise of redemption. As the Risen King, He reigns with justice, mercy, and grace, offering eternal hope to all who believe. His selflessness was not merely an act but the essence of His being.
This Advent, let us reflect on who Jesus is. Pause to consider the wonder of His incarnation—God becoming flesh. Meditate on His sacrifice, His teachings, and His triumph over death. Allow His example to inspire selflessness in your own life as you serve others and honor Him.
One contemplative practice to deepen your Advent journey is to read Messianic prophecies like Isaiah 9:6-7 or Psalm 22, and reflect on how they are fulfilled in Christ. Let your heart resonate with the truth that our Savior came not to be served but to serve, inviting us to follow in His steps.
This season, may our eyes stay fixed on Jesus, the selfless Savior, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
