Recently, I sent a loved one a book on supernatural childbirth. The author shared scriptures to support propositions that childbearing does not have to be laborious and presented amazing testimonies of easy delivery. While my birth experiences have not been like the testimonies described in the book, a friend testified that the book was helpful. In my short time walking with Jesus, I have come to accept that my experience does not invalidate Biblical truths. When my experience does not match God’s Word, my job is not to create a theology around it. Instead, I must press in for God’s best and still hold on to the truth. God’s Word is not the problem. God’s Word provides solutions to our problems.
Humans naturally like to blame others for their problems. That is the exact nature that makes us blame God for unanswered prayers, and that’s also pride at work in us. Unanswered prayers should humble us and bring us down to our knees before the God who says we should seek Him in all our ways (Proverbs 3:6).
I used to be cautious about sharing the healing power of Jesus because I have had occasions where I prayed, and nothing happened, and I know Christians who are sick. Over time I realized I was placing my experience and people’s experience above God’s Word. That in itself is pride. It is okay to say, “I do not understand why this happened.” It is not okay to say, “based on my experience, God does not heal anymore, etc.” God’s Word has the final say, not the human experience. So, what does God’s Word say about our challenges? Are we willing to humble ourselves and ask God, “where did I miss it?” or “why is this happening?” God hears and answers prayers when we seek Him with all our hearts. Are we truly seeking God’s best, or we want to have things done our way?
I am talking to myself, and I hope this resonates with someone.
You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. Wow, this is beautiful, and profound.
You mention several times the importance of humility. It is right to say we don’t understand some things, because God’s ways are higher than ours.
It took me a long time in my walk with the Lord to pray with sincerity and consistency : ‘Thy will be done’, rather than ‘my will be done’.
As we Moms know, children always think their way is best, and God recognizes that his children, in their littleness, always feel their way is best too.
But, as we, over time, see God’s wisdom, we become increasingly trusting, knowing that our Abba Daddy always knows what is best. ⚘
