Fasting and Your Faith

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Romans 1:17 (NKJV)

If we ever become bored on our faith journey and our experiences contradict what the Bible says, it is most likely because our spiritual growth is stunted and we need to level up our faith. The Bible shows us faith can be weak, little, or growing exceedingly (Romans 4:19; Matthew 8:26; 2 Thessalonians 1:3; Jude 1:20). We need to keep enforcing victory over the powers that seek to destroy our homes. Our faith must keep growing, and weak faith will fail us. Fasting can grow our faith. Fasting is required to move from theoretical faith to practical faith.

After Jesus’ disciples were unable to cast out a demon that was oppressing a child, they didn’t create a theology around their limitations. Instead, they sought Jesus to understand the reason for their spiritual limitation. Matthew 17:19-21 (NKJV) says, Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

The disciples needed a greater measure of faith to cast out the demon. This means faith can grow by meditating on the Word, fasting, and praying.

When the temptation to quit fasting intensifies and you feel like giving up the pursuit of MORE IN GOD for your household, I pray that you will remember to seek God for strength.

Fasting will launch us into the realm of faith that gives our family victory over the spirit of the world seeking to destroy our children’s lives and marriages.

I encourage you to take a moment to prayerfully study Matthew 17:14-21.
