The First Mention of Love in the Bible

Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

Genesis 22:2 (NKJV)

There’s a lot to unpack from this scripture. Today, let’s reflect on the fact that the word “love” is first used in a parent-child relationship. I believe this is God’s way of helping us understand that we come to know love through human relationships with our parents. From birth, even in utero, humans can sense the feeling of love or rejection. Parental love shapes our perception of God’s love, love in marriage, and how we express love to our children.
