The Promises of God for Mothers

Welcome back to another week in our Promise Keeper Series! This month, we’ve been exploring the promises of God for us as believers. Today, I want to ask an important question: Do you know the promises of God for you as a mom?

Many of us recognize the importance of the Bible and read it to learn and grow. As I’ve mentioned before, I enjoy reading autobiographies and watching documentaries, especially those based on archaeology, because I love seeking truth that can be backed up and verified. This element of our journey is necessary as we are encouraged to study to show ourselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15). But as moms, we also need the spiritual element of our faith. “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17). The Spirit is also called the Truth—the Spirit of Truth (John 14).

Embracing this element requires a keen awareness of the realm of the spirit. The sacred text informs us that we need spirit and truth. In John 4:23-24, Jesus states to the Samaritan woman, “But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be his worshippers. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Hebrews 11:1-3 tells us that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” As a mom, there are likely habits, characteristics, outcomes, and realities you desire for your children that haven’t yet materialized. You need the Holy Spirit to remain steadfast, encouraged, edified, and strengthened.

As we deepen our understanding of God’s promises, let’s remember that we must believe not only in what is visible, factual, and provable but also in what is spiritual and manifests as hope. This often requires perseverance, leaning not on our own understanding, and employing specific strategies to guard our hearts.

Moms, it’s time to embrace this concept, especially when it comes to our children!

Motherhood is a beautiful and challenging journey, filled with moments of joy, worry, love, and sacrifice. It is a unique but vital role that requires us to evolve in our worldview and grow in our spiritual understanding to train and guide the young minds we’ve been entrusted with. You may wonder, “Am I doing enough?” That is an answer only the Spirit of God can provide.

As mothers, we seek comfort, strength, and guidance in the Word of God, and this is a great practice to adopt. The Bible is rich with promises that speak directly to our hearts as mothers, offering encouragement and assurance. Let’s explore some of the promises that can sustain and uplift us daily.

Strength and Endurance

Motherhood requires a tremendous amount of strength, both physically and emotionally. God promises to provide the strength we need to face each day and every challenge.

Isaiah 40:29-31 (NIV): “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”

You may not always need strength due to weariness, and in that case, I’d like to point you to:

Philippians 4:13 (AMP): “I can do all things through Him who strengthens and empowers me to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.”

Wisdom and Guidance

As mothers, we need wisdom to raise our children in righteousness. God’s promise of wisdom is a great assurance that we are not alone in this journey.

James 1:5 (NIV): “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

While it is easier to type than live, I want to encourage you to make it a habit to ask for wisdom before responding to your children. I am working on this one intensely.

Peace and Comfort

The demands of motherhood can sometimes be overwhelming, leading to anxiety and stress. God promises peace that surpasses all understanding, which can calm our hearts and minds.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Provision and Needs

God knows our needs as mothers and our families needs. His promise to provide assures us that we can trust Him to meet all our needs. As outlined in a previous writing in this series, God’s sovereignty does not absolve us of our responsibilities. There may be some actions, habits, and mindsets that require adjustments.

Philippians 4:19 (NIV): “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”

Later in the week, I will return with another list of promises specifically for moms. I will also share my testimony of how the Word of God (truth) and the Spirit of God saved me and my son when I was 20 weeks pregnant.

I know some of you are gearing up for back to school, which could mean back to homeschooling routines or sending your children off to school (K-12 public or private, for some it’s college). At Christian Mommas, we are praying for you.

Feel free to share your thoughts or any additional scriptures that have encouraged you in your journey as a mother in the comment section below. Let’s build a community of support and faith, standing on the promises of God together.

  1. My children are adults, but my young grandchildren still need guidance. I’ll also try to make a habit of asking God for wisdom before responding to them. Thank you for sharing this! 🙂
