The story of Noah is perhaps one of the little one’s favorite Bible stories. If you ask him, “Can you tell me about the rainbow?” He would say, “It rained for forty days and forty nights. There was a storm. The boat on top of a mountain. A rainbow appeared in the sky. It was a sign from God.” His knowledge of the rainbow is derived from the Bible because we are maximizing the principle of the first mention. He will never forget his first perception of a rainbow, just like he will not forget his many firsts in life.
Before our little one learns about the rainbow, sex, gender, and life from the world, we must ensure our children are first aware of Biblical truths on these subjects. If we do not take time to teach our children Biblical truths, the world will teach them unbiblical concepts. We must make time.
As “PRIDE” is being celebrated this month, we should check the state of our heart when discussing LGBTQ with our children and when we interact with those who struggle with gender identity. Loving and having compassion does not mean we are compromising the truth.
The truth is that many Christian children and adults would like to open up to us about their battles with gender and sexuality. If we do not present ourselves as a safe place for vulnerability and love, we will lose precious souls. If we get angry and speak ungracious words when discussing LGBTQ issues, we have partnered with the enemy by making it difficult for affected friends, children, relatives, and Christians to share their pain with us.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16 (NIV)

So important to teach first from a Biblical perspective and to never shadow the reality of what others falsely believe is okay…the beautiful thing is that when we teach from a Biblical perspective children learn about loving others unconditionally, not judgement even if our practices/lives don’t look the same….we learn to dislike the sin but love the sinner.
