It is Well

What should I post today? I thought to myself. The following scripture came to mind:

Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. Isaiah 3:10 (NIV)

One of the most tragic events parents face is the death of a child. Yet, one mother said “everything is alright” after the death of her child. Her faith (Hebrews 11:35) and everything she modeled before and after the death of her child intrigues me.

Here is the true story about a woman who lost a child God gave to her (the child was given to her as a reward for her good deed to a prophet):

2 Kings 4:18-26 (NLT)

One day when her child was older, he went out to help his father, who was working with the harvesters. Suddenly he cried out, “My head hurts! My head hurts!” His father said to one of the servants, “Carry him home to his mother.” So the servant took him home, and his mother held him on her lap. But around noontime he died. She carried him up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, then shut the door and left him there. She sent a message to her husband: “Send one of the servants and a donkey so that I can hurry to the man of God and come right back.” “Why go today?” he asked. “It is neither a new moon festival nor a Sabbath.”

But she said, “It will be all right.” So she saddled the donkey and said to the servant, “Hurry! Don’t slow down unless I tell you to.” As she approached the man of God at Mount Carmel, Elisha saw her in the distance. He said to Gehazi, “Look, the woman from Shunem is coming. Run out to meet her and ask her, ‘Is everything all right with you, your husband, and your child?’” “Yes,” the woman told Gehazi, “everything is fine.”

Could it be that saying “it is well” in difficult times is prophetic? I believe it is.

We can continue to speak life and believe in our heart that it shall indeed be well with us.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (NIV)
