Reflections: Veterans Day 2021

Happy Veterans Day to all military veterans!

While I separated from the military about four years ago, I still find myself singing military cadences. Last weekend, I sang “I’m a steam roller baby, I’m gonna roll all over you…” as steam rolled out of my little kettle. Also, I marched around the house with my spouse. What joy!

Today, I realized I am actually a steamroller. I understand that being a steamroller can also have a negative interpretation. However, I choose the positive interpretation based on my military experience. In the military, a steamroller paves the way and levels surfaces by crushing all opposing forces on its way.

Given that the maternal side of my family practice Islam–my mother, grandmother, and other women before me were Muslims, I am a first-generation Christian mother. Also, I am the first woman to serve in the military in my family. All these have been made possible by God and they pave the way for generations after me.

I am thankful to God for helping me crush every opposition on my path. God makes me a pacesetter as I let His Word direct my paths.

Today, I reflect on the fact that Christians are soldiers of Christ. However, we will never have to retire or be separated from service due to term limits or injury. We will always be in service as we choose God daily. We will never be too old to serve. Our cadence is the Word of God, Psalms. Ephesians 5:19 (NLT) says, “singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.”

If you are a military veteran and being separated from the military has caused you emotional pain or mental health challenges, I invite you to become a soldier of Christ today. It is an eternal adventure and you will remain in service as you follow the Lord of Host.

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: Isaiah 45:2 (KJV)

Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.

Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!
