Testimony Time: Becoming Dr. Temi

Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart. And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD [with reverent awe and obedience] and turn [entirely] away from evil.

I have officially completed my doctoral studies! I thought it would take four years but it took less than three years. The God of all possibilities did it! I am thankful to God for the journey. Proverbs 3:5-7 sums up my experience. Enrolling in the right courses, choosing the right dissertation committee members and dissertation topic, and deciding on a career change were divinely ordered by God

Due to financial constraints, I earned my bachelor’s degree ten years after graduating from high school or secondary school. God turned my situation around by first opening the door for me to serve in the U.S. Army despite being an international student. After separating from the military, I went on to earn 3 master’s degrees and a Ph.D. within 5 years using 36 months of my education benefits. I have zero dollars in student loans, and my family is debt-free.

I didn’t lose my marriage during my doctoral studies. My children didn’t have medical emergencies that would have affected my studies.  Even more beautiful is the fact that most of the knowledge I acquired enhanced my parenting skills. My dissertation was miraculously completed as God granted me favor with my dissertation committee members, helped me through sleepless nights, and expedited the process. God told me he would expedite the dissertation process because I was sowing my time advancing His kingdom, serving Christian mothers and families.

My dissertation topic was: USING THE DEVELOPMENTAL, INDIVIDUAL-DIFFERENCES, RELATIONSHIP-BASED MODEL (DIRFLOORTIME®) FOR SPIRITUALITY AND EMOTIONAL PERINATOLOGY: AN AUTOETHNOGRAPHY. I explored how spirituality (from a Christian worldview) and emotional support can prevent Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) and promote mother-infant secure attachment.

During my doctoral studies, I published my first book, A Christian Mother’s Creed, and 35 devotionals on YouVersion, the Bible App. These devotionals and a few others written by members of the Christian Mommas team have been completed by over 110,000 people with over 175,000 subscriptions. I wrote hundreds of blog posts and partnered with other ministries to advance God’s kingdom. Furthermore, God instructed me to start a mentorship program while writing my dissertation. I obeyed, and Christian Mommas Inc. is currently a non-profit organization supporting 15 mothers in our mentorship program. In addition, I was intentional about not hindering my spouse’s service in God’s house. God honored His Word. Over the past weeks, it has been good news galore for my family.

Faith without works is dead. When we prioritize God’s work and choose to live for God, we are saying “thank you” to God, and it comes with great benefits.

Finally, I am thankful that my Muslim mother did not abort me despite the pressure and circumstances surrounding my birth. It is hard to imagine that all these things I get to do would have been aborted. What God can do through us is greater than the circumstances surrounding our birth. We don’t eliminate evil with evil.

My testimony is proof that serving God and others is the key to living a purpose-driven life. God’s Word works!
