Mindfulness is being present.
I have a 2-month-old. He received some shots recently. The day he received his shots, the shot sites suddenly became more uncomfortable and painful. So, he started crying.
I had a lot going on..school work, business, etc. Yet, I told myself they would have to wait. I decided to be present- give my little one undivided attention.
When I chose to be present, I was able to enter my little one’s world. I held him in mind and I felt his pain even more. In that moment, my eyes became teary and I did not hold back my tears while telling the little one “mommy is here.”
He cried, I cried, we cried…. and we felt better. My little one was co-regulated by my words and emotion. He felt heard because I heard his cry and responded. This happened because I was present- physically and emotionally available. Saying “mommy is here” was not enough. I had to truly be there in words and indeed.
Compassion was extended, secure attachment was enhanced and our relationship was strengthened.
Being present allows us to be there for/with others. It allows us to mourn with those who are mourning, and bear another’s burden. I have no doubt that God wants us to be present when we interact with others. He wants us to carry other’s burdens and bring those burdens to him in prayer immediately. God wants us to seek the good of others.
The most beautiful thing is that we can also live conscious of God’s presence while interacting with others. Doing this allows us to be emotionally and spiritually sensitive. If we want to fulfill the great commission, we must be present.
Today, practice being present in God’s presence and in your interaction with others. Also, be present with yourself. How are you doing? 🙂
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
Would you like to become a member of God’s family? Please say the prayer below and let me know about it here.
Say this: Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe you exist and you sent Jesus to die for me. I receive your love and forgiveness. Reveal yourself to me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen
Welcome to God’s family!
Poor baby and poor mommy! I know that sweet baby is blessed to have such a compassionate mommy taking such good care!
Thank you for an awesome post! Bearing each other’s burdens and taking each other’s needs to the throne of God is so important in being our brother’s keeper. 🙂
We need to be our brother’s keeper this season. With all the mental health issues caused by the pandemic, we need to be there for one another.
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
hi have a good day friend
Such an important practice with ourselves and all relationships, especially with children, who instinctively know whether we are listening and there or not. Being present with He who is always “I AM”. I do think that praying immediately is also really helpful and effective too – I used to put prayer requests on my list, but now I pray first and then jot them down – more to remember to thank and praise Him later!
Amen! Yes, we can do both. Prayer immediately and continue thanking God for answered prayers. Thank you!
